The Author

Pamela Farlinger is an experienced writer, producer and director of Canadian film, television and the theatre. She was the winner of the Bronze Award at the Houston Filmfest in 1994 for the Short Drama Collateral Damage. Collateral Damage was also nominated for a Genie that year for Best Short Film. In 1998, her production of Patty Conklin – The Carnival King was a Merit Finalist at the Houston Filmfest in the Short Subject, Historical category and was shown on "Life and Times" on the CBC. Demanding A Cure, her documentary on AIDS, was written, directed and produced for CBC Newsworld. She has written television episodes for David Suzuki’s Nature Quest, and has served as the writer/composer and director for several community musical theatre productions.

Pamela is the founder and President of Actuality Films, established in 1992 to develop, produce and distribute television, film and musical theatre productions. Pamela is also an arts consultant and has worked extensively the last three years in consulting and production management for theatre programs for youth, particularly for the George Brown Theatre School's joint venture in the Young Centre for the Performing Arts.

Closer to Fine is her first novel but she brings her well-established screen and script-writing skills to bear to produce an autobiographical novel about her own experiences with illness in the Canadian heath care system that is immensely readable and visual.

Pamela lives in Toronto with her husband Richard and her blended family of 6 children, step-children and a host of colourful friends and family featured in Closer to Fine.
